Hallowell, Maine – SpinOff Studio and the Harlow Gallery will be hosting Mathew Alden Price as the 5th artist in their Lunch with an Artist lecture series. This is a free event held at SpinOff Studio, 184 Water St. in Hallowell on Wednesday, June 27th. Lunch with an Artist is a great chance to take a break, have a casual lunch with other members of the community and meet and discover the work of many talented artists.

Matthew Alden Price is a well known artist from Philadelphia with strong ties to Maine. Mr. Price has shown work in galleries and museums across the United States, Korea and the Netherlands. Mr. Price received his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art and has developed a large artistic vocabulary amongst his travels in the Maritimes along the coast of Maine, Iceland Korea and Denmark. Mr. Price’s creates three dimensional painting using multiple layers of texture, lacquer, Victorian motifs and traditional Korean papers.

Hanji Color Field Paintings display traditional handmade Korean rice paper in new yet familiar ways. Originally used to cover windows of Korean homes (hanok), here, the paper becomes an entry point into another environment. Slightly above the painted panels lacquered surface one is drawn into a reflective field of color. Beneath the color, along the peripheral edges of the artists’ papers, are decorative motifs describing new perspectives on landscapes.” –Matthew Alden Price.
